The European Cultural Village is an integrated centre of European cultural heritage and contemporary culture whose purpose is to promote and teach about the European cultural area. The diversity of today's 27 EU Member States implies, as well as many advantages (the diversity of the cultural area), certain weaknesses in relation to communication and understanding of this multiculturality and the common European identity, and therefore a centre of this kind presents itself as a kind of point of intersection of a multicultural Europe that is dispersed over an area of more than 4.3 million square kilometres. The idea is to establish the first European cultural centre of this kind (ECV), where activities connected with the promotion of Europe's multiculturality will take place. The contents of the promotion of European multiculturality are linked to the widest variety of forms of social culture in EU Member States (cuisine, music, language, folklore, architecture, etc.) and of broader elements of social creativity (science, education, sport, etc.). The ECV can also market itself as a tourist attraction, an events centre, a centre for sporting events, a campsite or other form of accommodation for visitors to the centre, educational purposes, etc.
